NO 1 fell again! The container shipping market is weak
Due to sluggish demand during the peak season and more and more new ships entering the market, the Shanghai Export Container Freight Index (SCFI) fell below 1,000 points again. Container shipping giants are trying to stabilize freight rates by increasing work reductions before the National Day holiday.

According to the latest data released by the Shanghai Aviation Exchange, the SCFI index fell 34.42 points to 999 points last week, a weekly decline of 3.33%. After a brief rebound for a week, the SCFI index fell again. Among the major long-distance routes, the North American route fell again after a strong rebound in the previous week, and the European route freight rates also remained weak.

Among them, the freight rate per FEU from the Far East to the US West Line fell by US$99 to US$2,037, a weekly decrease of 4.63%; the freight rate per FEU from the Far East to the US East Line fell by US$263 to US$2,869, a weekly decrease of 8.4%. The freight rate per TEU from the Far East to Europe line fell by US$54 to US$714, a decrease of 7.03%; the freight rate per TEU from the Far East to the Mediterranean line fell by US$56 to US$1,308, a weekly decrease of 4.11%.

On the near-ocean line, freight rates fluctuated. Among them, the freight rate per TEU from the Far East to Kansai, Japan fell by US$1 compared with the previous week; the freight rate per TEU from the Far East to Kansai, Japan was the same as the previous week; the freight rate per TEU from the Far East to Southeast Asia increased by US$10 compared with the previous week; and the freight rate per TEU from the Far East to South Korea was the same as the previous week. Prices remained unchanged from the previous week


NO.2 The Port of New York and New Jersey handled more than 725,000 TEUs in July

The Port of New York and New Jersey was the busiest U.S. port in July, moving 725,479 TEU, the highest monthly total since October 2022 and bringing the port's full-year total to 4,465,823 TEU. The month's result was 6.5% lower than July 2022, when the port handled 776,167 TEU.

In addition, compared with July 2022, TEU imports in July decreased by 7.7%, totaling 372,139 TEU, and the total volume of imported goods from January to July was 2,269,635 TEU, a decrease of 22.2% compared with the same period in 2022. From January to July, the export volume of the Port of New York and New Jersey was 751,527 TEU, a year-on-year decrease of 1.3%. In addition, rail freight volume fell 10.3% compared with the same period last year, totaling 55,069 containers

NO.3 September transportation capacity, Evergreen Shipping once again surpassed ONE

Data released by Alphaliner shows that as of September 8, 2023, the total number of container ships in operation worldwide reached 6,696, an increase of 26 ships from the previous period (August 4, 2023, the same below), and the global shipping capacity totaled 27,745,252TEU, an increase of 226,384 from the previous period. TEU, the total tonnage of operating ships is 330,935,923 deadweight tons.

In terms of the ranking of the top 20 liner companies, Evergreen Line, which was surpassed by Ocean Network Shipping (ONE) in August, overtook ONE again in September, ranking 6th, and ONE ranked 7th. Singapore Maritime Shipping's ranking increased by 2 places to 17th, Changjin Merchant Shipping's ranking increased by 1 place to 19th, and China Grain Logistics' ranking dropped by 3 places to 20th.

NO.4 MSC adds two new China sea-rail intermodal transport services

Recently, Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) announced the addition of Yancheng-Shanghai and Huai'an-Shanghai sea-rail combined transportation services.

MSC said that as photovoltaic companies continue to expand production in northern Jiangsu, the two new sites in Yancheng and Huai'an can better meet the logistics needs of photovoltaic and local export companies for growth and cost reduction.

NO.5 Amazon Japan: FBA freezing fees will be charged from November 6

Recently, Amazon Japan announced that it will implement the following changes: The first is to waive the refrigeration fee and waive the 330 yen (tax included) refrigeration fee charged to buyers. The second is to display the Prime logo for buyers, and the Prime logo will be displayed on the product. Detail pages and search results, just like in regular FBA.

The third is the designated delivery date and time service. Similar to regular FBA, Amazon will provide a designated delivery date and time service. The fourth is the FBA freezing fee. Starting from November 6, 2023, in addition to the regular FBA fees (shipping agency fees and inventory warehousing fees), a freezing fee of 375 yen per shipment will also be charged.
