Panama Canal traffic begins to recover! Will large reservoirs be built to cope with dry mornings?

On May 5, local time, the Panamanian Electoral Court announced that Mulino was elected as the new president of Panama.sea shipping

Panama's incoming president has made water levels in the country's canal one of the most important items on his agenda.container shipping service

In an interview with Reuters, Mulino said he would try to get lawmakers to approve a law enabling the Panama Canal to build a massive reservoir in response to a dry season that has severely restricted traffic in the trans-oceanic waterway over the past 12 months.door to door

Mulino said the law, which would allow waterways to operate on land needed for reservoirs, would be the first to be approved during his administration.

The Panama Canal Authority (ACP) aims to increase the number of vessels sailing daily to 32 by next month and says full operations will only resume next year after the worst drought on record severely damaged waterway operations. Total crossings in April were up 6 per cent month-on-month, providing further evidence that the worst of the dry morning restrictions have passed.

lva Esoino de Marotta, Deputy Director and Chief Sustainability Officer at ACP, said :" The recent drying of the canal not only highlights the fragility of our water systems, but also the urgent need for innovative and collaborative solutions.

To effectively address the challenge of water scarcity, we understand that we must take a multifaceted approach that includes technology, policy reforms and community engagement."

According to newly released data from the Panama Canal Authority (ACP), the waterway handled 789 vessels in April, a 6% increase from March.
