48,000 container! There is a backlog of goods and the ports are shut down! Can Australian shipping still operate?
Now, as the latest round of negotiations between DP World Group and the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA) breaks down, strike action at Australian ports has escalated again.
According to reports, there is currently a backlog of at least 48,000 containers across Australian ports, causing serious disruptions to transportation.
Among them, employees at the Sydney, Brisbane and Fremantle terminals have stopped working, and work at the Melbourne terminal has also been restricted. Together, these terminals handle approximately 40% of Australia's freight volume.
In response to this situation, Maersk updated its warning on DP World's Australian industrial strike on its official website
Maersk said that according to notifications from the Australian Maritime Union (CFMMEU), ports such as Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Fremantle will be affected by strike action.
Brisbane: Terminal operations will be suspended from January 22-30 until further notice.
Sydney: Terminal operations will be suspended from January 22-30 until further notice
Melbourne: From January 22 to 30, terminal operations will be restricted. The specific scope and time of the impact are to be determined.
Fremantle: Terminal operations will be suspended from January 22-30 until further notice
